Over the past few years, a bevy of nonresidential construction projects in Washington, D.C., dominated this region, but a broader range of projects broke ground in this area in 2012. Now underway are the billion-dollar Brickel CitiCentre mixed-use project in Miami; billions of dollars of utility construction with nuclear plant expansion in Waynesboro, Ga., and Jenkinsville, S.C., the Warrant County power station in Front Royal, Va., and the Riviera Beach Next Generation Clean Energy Center; a $346 million zinc production facility in Rutherfordton, N.C.; a $450 million expansion of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport; D.C.’s $290 million National Museum of African American History; and a $200 million AT&T data center in Kings Mountain, N.C.
