Mayer Electric Supply Enters Arkansas Market with Acquisition of Upchurch
Mayer Electric Supply Co., Inc., Birmingham, AL, said that Upchurch Electrical Supply Co., based in Fayetteville, AR, will become part of Mayer in a deal announced yesterday. Upchurch has locations in Fayetteville, Fort Smith and Rogers, and marks Mayer’s first expansion into the state of Arkansas.
Mayer has been looking to the south-central part of the United States for growth opportunities since it made its first acquisition in the Texas market with the 2012 acquisition of Mustang Electric Supply in Dallas and opened a new location in Houston in 2013.
Upchurch Electrical Supply, founded in Fayetteville in 1955, is a full-line distributor serving residential, commercial, industrial and utility markets in Northwest Arkansas.
“In our ever-changing industry, we must constantly evaluate opportunities to grow our company both organically and by joining forces with other successful companies who fit our culture,” said Mayer President Wes Smith in a release announcing the deal. “Over many months of discussions, it became apparent that Mayer and Upchurch share similar values and objectives, as well as stellar reputations with both customers and suppliers. The timing and opportunity simply made sense to both companies.”
For three-location Upchurch Electrical Supply, which ranked #168 on the 2017 Electrical Wholesaling Top 200, becoming part of Mayer, #11 on that list, is an opportunity to join a larger operation with a similar perspective on the market.
“I knew we could only consider a company with a similar philosophy and commitment to our customers and employees,” said David “Smac” McConnell, president of Upchurch Electrical Supply. “Mayer’s reputation for customer service, supplier relationships and commitment to their associates were keys to opening the dialog.”
Mayer, a third-generation family-owned business founded in 1930, has nearly 1,200 associates serving a diverse set of customers in 11 states with 54 branch locations and distribution facilities.
