Border States’ Tammy Miller wins NAED’s Art Hooper Award

May 13, 2014
Miller joined Border States as the accounting manager in 1991. She was named president in 2005 and CEO in 2006. In addition to winning several other NAED honors, Miller was awarded the YWCA Woman of the Year in Business Award in 2009; two distinguished alumni awards from Minnesota State University Moorhead; and serves on the board of directors for Affiliated Distributors.

Tammy Miller, CEO of Border States Electric Fargo, N.D., , has received the National Association of Electrical Distributors’ (NAED) Arthur W. Hooper Achievement Award, the association’s highest honor. This award is presented to an individual who has had an exceptional career in distribution. Miller is the first woman to receive this prestigious award.

“She’s extremely bright but very humble and easy to engage, and she’s one of the most disciplined individuals I’ve ever met, which has contributed to her ability to focus and succeed,” John Spoor, president and COO of State Electric Supply, said. “Tammy’s character is beyond reproach and in an industry long associated with male leadership, she’s demonstrated the level of success that can be accomplished and is an inspiration to other females in our electrical industry.”

“It’s very exciting to be this year’s Arthur W. Hooper award recipient, and I’m honored and humbled to be included with other prominent distributor leaders who have contributed so much to NAED and our industry,” Miller said. “I am proud that my actions have made a positive difference in our industry and this association. I share this award with the amazing people I work with — the employee-owners of Border States and my husband of 26 years, Craig Palmer. The success I have achieved is because of all of you.”

Miller joined Border States as the accounting manager in 1991. Her positions at the corporate office included corporate controller, V.P. finance, senior V.P.and executive V.P. She assumed general management responsibilities for the Southwest Region in 2003, was named president in 2005, and CEO in 2006.

In addition to winning several other NAED honors, Miller was awarded the YWCA Woman of the Year in Business Award in 2009; two distinguished alumni awards from Minnesota State University Moorhead; and serves on the board of directors for Affiliated Distributors, the Elite Distributors Insurance Captive (EDIC), the Greater Fargo-Moorhead Economic Development Corporation and Starion Financial.
