Candela Corp., Irvine, Calif., a supplier of lamps, ballasts and sockets to electrical wholesalers, recently introduced its digital business cards (DBCs). The DBCs present company, product and marketing information in an interactive CD-ROM based format that the industry has not yet seen.

“Candela Corp. discovered a way to present itself to new customers in a fun and exciting way,” said Scott Anderson, Candela Corp.'s director of marketing. “We are extremely pleased with the product and can't wait to begin delivering them to our current customer base as well.” Anderson emphasized that this program will initially focus on new customers in the electrical wholesaling channel, essentially broadening the market.

The DBC is structured like a Web site. First, the user is introduced to the DBC with a fast-paced video instruction laced with a matching music track. Next, the card centers on a “home page,” which directs users to five other option pages: Key Vendors, Products, Who is Candela?, Lamp and Ballast ID and Your Benefits. Of particular interest to early focus groups was the Lamp and Ballast ID page, which allows users to view all different types of lamp shapes, base types, filament designs and Robertson Version diagrams. Once customers have finished viewing the card in the Your Benefits section, they can choose an option to collect a “free gift” by registering at the company's Web site.

To obtain information on the digital business cards, call Candela's customer service at (800) 722-6068 (west) or (800) 922-9226 (east).
