2017 Middle Atlantic Region Forecast

For construction project geeks, any visit to the Big Apple is worth a walk to the Hudson Yards development, the largest private construction project now underway in the United States, with $25 billion in construction planned on more than 20 acres of real estate with super-prime Hudson River views. The city has all sorts of other skyscrapers poking holes in the sky, but one of the most interesting projects may be the planned $1.6 billion conversion of the Farley U.S. Post Office into the Penn Station mass transit hub for daily commuters and East Coast travelers. Other jobs underway in the region include a $453 million high-rise apartment building underway in Jersey City, N.J.; a 22-story residential tower ready to break ground in Newark, N.J.;  and a $134 million renovation underway at  Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh. Dodge Data & Analytics says other large projects under construction in the region include the $900 million Moxie Freedom Natural Gas generation plant in Pennsylvania; a $600 million casino project in Kiamesha Lake, N.Y.; and a $500 million renovation of the Vassar Brother Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
