While downtown Boston typically accounts for the lion’s share of New England’s construction activity, this year saw several other notable projects hit the drawing boards or break ground in other areas. UMass proposed $2.5 billion in new construction and renovation across five campuses in the state; a billion-dollar Wynn casino/hotel project broke ground in Everett, Mass., just outside of Boston; and the $247 million MGM casino/hotel project is now underway in Springfield, Mass. Other notable proposals in Dodge Data & Analytics’ databank include a $250 million redevelopment project on Portland, Maine’s waterfront, and a billion-dollar expansion of Boston’s Children’s Hospital. The office construction/multi-family renaissance in Boston really stands out in this market, and the new GE headquarters in the planning stages will add to an already impressive portfolio of projects.
